Data Center Solar Farm To Be Built On Former Virginia Mining Site

Mineral Gap Data Centers’ proposed solar farm in Wise, Va., has been named one of 10 projects selected for grant approval from the state’s Abandoned Mine Land (AML) pilot program. The program is administered by the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy and is funded by the Federal Power Plus Pilot Program. Each project includes the reclamation of a closed surface mining site.

The project is slated to receive a pilot grant of $500,000 from the $10 million in federal grant money Virginia received to develop AML sites. The grant will help accelerate the development of what Mineral Gap Data Centers envisions as a solar farm generating up to 3.5 MW of renewable power.
